In the past, I was always amazed when I saw those spacy 3D wallpapers on Deviantart and the art groups. But recently I found a technique to create the effect in no time, without any knowledge of 3D modelling.

Always dreamt of designing your own snowboard? Or even better, design a limited edition snowboard that’ll be produced and selled worldwide?
Then grab your chance and enter the Design Your Ride competition, a coöperation of Monson boards and Kasei sports.

“You love snowboarding. You love designing. Are you ready for these two worlds to collide?”
If you want to take part of this unique contest, design a board on the template your get when you register, then upload your work (deadline: March 3th!) and let people vote on it. If your design gets at least 100 votes (from 100 different people), you make it to the finals, where they count your exact votes. The winning snowboard design goes in production, but the 4 runner up’s get a real life version of their snowboard too! Contest details here.

Encouraged by OlduvaiGeorge, I’ve been experimenting again with my Wacom tablet, in Photoshop. This is my latest creation, based on a fast ballpoint-sketch:

To show you that it’s not difficult at all, I wrote this “making of”, explaining the basis process and techniques used for the textures on the cloths.

Two days ago I stumbled on the blog of an amazing graphic tablet artist: Olduvaigeorge, who gives us a look “behind the scenes” of making these highly detailed illustrations of (prehistorical) animals.
If you’re thinking of using a graphic tablet yourself, you should really check his working process, and realise the only tools he uses are Photoshop and a small Wacom tablet.
